"Toughees... they are no longer just shoes but icons! Bata has developed these shoes taking into consideration the realities of the African countries they are sold in, the needs and desire of the people wearing them."
For over 60 years, Africa's Toughees have been helping children to go to school. Here, many children walk many kilometers to school over rough and wet terrain and so our shoes have to be tough as well as comfortable. Toughees are made using the construction process which bonds the soles firmly onto the leather uppers so they can withstand any amount of kicking and flexing.
In South Africa, this is important because the shoes need to last a long time as well as look good. School uniform is a great leveller and the Toughees shoe has become an integral part of the African school uniform throughout the continent and can be seen in just about every school.
We are constantly looking to improve our processes, improve our quality and deliver every day a friendlier shoe with the environment.
